A short while ago Baker Days contacted me to ask if I’d like to review* one of their ‘Letterbox Cakes’; when they contacted me it couldn’t have possibly come at a better time as my friend was already past her due date so it was the perfect opportunity to get a little something for her – especially as we don’t live nearby – 119 miles apart in fact *sobs in to handkerchief*.
I browsed the website and found the New Baby Cakes and all looked amazing, but then I found the Photo Cakes!! How amazing – you can get a photo on a cake – a baby’s face on a cake – what’s not to love?! The day that she gave birth to her gorgeous second daughter she sent me a photo, which I sent to Baker Days to put on the cake and chose template number 10 from the ‘Design your own Cake’ section. The process was really easy, in fact the toughest part was choosing which design I wanted because there is so much choice. While I was browsing for the new baby cake I noticed there is literally a cake for everything you could think of including birthdays, cupcakes – even One Direction cakes!
We were really happy with the quality of the cake and of the photo, considering it was a picture taken on a phone camera in a maternity ward which is then printed on to icing it turned out really clear.

The Nitty Gritty
|The tab that you see is used to help remove the cake from the tin, it fits quite snugly in there and you have to sort of wiggle it out of the tin. Being so snug meant that the cake was safe in transit and didn’t get bashed around.|
|The cake was split amongst 4 adults and 2 toddlers – the perfect size slice to have with a cup of tea|

It was really great being able to go see my friend and her new baby without having to think about what to bring because the cake had already been posted – I just told them the date I was planning a visit and they got it in the post in time to arrive before us. Because it keeps fresh for 10 days and we were going the Wednesday after a bank holiday, they shipped it on the Friday and it had arrived by Saturday – no panicking that it wasn’t going to get there on time and the cake was still absolutely lovely when we opened it up.
Being a parent who can’t drive means that I can’t always just go back up to my home city or wherever my friends are whenever I feel like it and I really feel these cakes are a great way to show someone you love that you are thinking about them even when you aren’t able to see them. I’m eyeing up a ‘Best Teacher’ cake at the moment for my friend who will soon be finishing her first year as a Nursery Teacher up in Manchester.
