Liebster Award

1st May 2015 2 Comments Written by Natalie Streets
Thanks to Blogging Mamma, MrsSavageAngel and
Live Now Blog Later for nominating me for a liebster award.

The Rules

1. Acknowledge and thank the blog who nominated you.
2. Look for an award image that you like, and post it on
your blog.
3.  Answer the 11 questions asked by the person/blog who nominated you.
4. Nominate 11 blogs
5. Let the bloggers know that you nominated them.
6. Give them 11 questions to answer.

11 Questions From
Blogging Mamma

1) If you could only ever eat one
food/meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
Sandwiches – I nearly always have a sandwich for lunch.
They’re really versatile because you can put ANYTHING in them.
Although I’m pretty boring and often stick with Ham & Cheese!
3) If you could meet any celebrity
(living or not) who would you want to meet and why?
I’ve never really been in to the whole ‘celebrity culture’,
but I’ve met quite a few through working in hotels.  My choice is someone
that not a lot of people would have heard of, but I’ll choose her anyway –
Giovanna Fletcher – she’s the wife of Mcfly/McBusted’s Tom Fletcher and the
sister of Mario Falcone from TOWIE – but the reason I want to meet her is that
from watching her vlogs, reading her blogs, seeing her tweets etc I feel like
we are quite similar.  She talks about breastfeeding really casually,
which I love because she has a lot of  teenage followers as she is a
‘McWag’; she seems really genuine and honest, she vlogs in her pyjamas with no
make up on, her husband works ridiculous hours leaving her at home to look
after the baby, she feels anxious in a crowded room with people she doesn’t
know and she’s an author – I love writing but I lack the focus to ever write a
book.  Blogs are long enough for me!
4) What is your biggest pet peeve?
Disgusting eaters, i.e big mouthfuls – I don’t know if it’s
because I have a small mouth so take tiny bites but when I see someone load a
fork up and open their mouth so wide it looks like their jaw is dislocating
(you know, like when a snake eats something bigger than itself..) it really
grosses me out.  I remember telling off my OH, R for doing it in the very
early stages of our relationship.  I can tell when Oliver’s been around
people who take big mouthfuls too because he does it then can’t chew/swallow
his food and has to spit it out.
5) Main goal for 2015?
Be more organised – I hate being disorganised. It makes me
really stressed.  We are moving soon to a proper house instead of little
flat so I’m hoping this helps me, but I’ll keep you updated on that!
6) Link your favourite blog post written
by someone else.
Gender Identities in Children – Boys will be boys by
‘Inside Martyn’s Thoughts’ – I really liked this post because at the time of
publishing we were going through the yearly phase of people thinking we were
weird for putting Oliver in tights to keep him warm.
7) Link your favourite blog post written
by you.
It’s quite a serious one, but it has to be ‘Why I will
always talk to my kids about mental health’, it’s a topic that is very close to
my heart and super important to me.  One of the things I really love
though is that it spurred on another blogger to write a post about what was
happening in his life.  You can’t beat that feeling.

8) Are you a planner or a spontaneous kind of person.
Planner, but I used to be spontaneous.  I really need
to know what is happening when so that I can prepare properly.  It’s only
a recent development, I think its something to do with being in a different
stage of life.  At uni and in my younger days I was really spontaneous,
but I’d find it really stressful now with a toddler in tow.  Maybe when
he’s older spontaneity will return?

9) What non physical trait of yours would you change?
Anxiety!  I get anxious about so many things.  I
hate crowded rooms, going somewhere on my own where I don’t know people,
meeting new people, my OH being home at the right time… I’m just a worrier,
but things are never as bad as I think they’ll be.  R pointed out one day
that I always think people are gonna hate me but then I get on really well with
them.  Something to work on!

10) What made you begin your blog?
It was a way of getting out thoughts that I didn’t really
want to say out loud.  There were so many webpages congratulating me on
being pregnant and talking about ‘expectant mums’, but we weren’t planning on
having a baby.  Similarly, even though it was a shock and I wasn’t
instantly thrilled, I never considered a termination – there wasn’t too much
middle ground.

11) Tell me a quote or mantra you identify with
.
“Everything happens for a reason”, I chose
this one because of my past.  I suffered depression, I self harmed, I was
pretty reckless and got very drunk a lot.  I pretty much screwed
up my A-levels.  If I hadn’t I probably would have sailed through and gone
to uni not knowing what I wanted from life.  At one point I also thought I
was destined to be alone forever.  But I figured out my life, I studied
something I wanted to do, I met R, we settled down (I wasn’t really expecting
to fall so in love) and here we are 5 years later.Ps-I have no idea where number 2 went, Blogging Mamma nominated me in January and it’s been sat in my drafts ever since.

11 Questions from MrsSavageAngel

  1. If you’d been born the opposite gender to the one you are,
what would you have been called?

My parents couldn’t choose between Nathan
and Oliver.  Really weird as I never knew this until Oliver was born –
turns out my Dad had a really close friend called Oliver who died just before I
    was born.  Freaky huh?
  2. Why did you start blogging?I got pregnant and I had no idea how to deal with it, we hadn’t planned to have
a baby.  I read loads of stuff relating to ‘expectant mums’, but I wasn’t
expecting to be ‘expectant’, I felt guilty for a long time and blogging helped
    me process my thoughts.
  3. Best birthday present you’ve ever received?I actually have no idea, how sad is that?  My birthdays are usually more
about time than presents, I had an amazing 25th birthday because we hired a
cottage in Bakewell and a load of friends came, we just hung out, drunk, did a
bit of a sightseeing and ate LOADS.
  4. Have you made any money from your blog and how long had
you’d been blogging before you did?
Nope!  I’m reaching the point where I’d like to, but I have no idea how to
go about it or really have the time to read about it.
  5. Pinterest or Instagram?I love pinterest, but it has to be instagram, I love getting a little snapshot
    in to people’s lives
  6. When do you find you write the best and where?I write best at night, but Oliver goes to bed so late I often find myself writing
during his nap as I look at my living room floor full of toys and my kitchen
    full of dishes!
  7. Most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?Had a baby 😉  haha, definitely has to top the charts!  I’m a bit of
an obsessive planner and don’t take too many risks, the other thing is probably
getting drunk and revealing my love for R, luckily it was reciprocated!
  8. Have you been to any blogging conferences/meet ups and did
they help you as a blogger?
Not yet – there’s a Hertfordshire blog meet on 23rd May and I am planning to
    going.
  9. Favourite book as a child?I can’t remember the name of it, but it was about a cat who had 1 white foot…
I really wish I could remember what it was called or who it was by!
  10. If you could give me just one social media tip what would it
    be?
Be random!  It’s the best way to be!
  11. If you could be on a beach or up a mountain right now which
    would it be?
Definitely a beach!  I love the feel of sand between my toes, the sea air
    and the sunshine!

11 Questions from Live Now Blog Later

  1. What inspired you to start blogging? The craziness of a surprise pregnancy, not knowing how to handle it in the real
world, so I turned to the amazing online community
  2. How did you choose your blog name?I wasn’t expecting to be expecting, there didn’t seem to be any advice for
people out there who either a) weren’t planning to have a baby or b) didn’t
want a termination and so I decided ‘unexpectant mother’ seemed about right!
  3. What was the best thing about your day?Oliver has decided he wants to potty train, and hasn’t wet his pants once!!
He’s done two wees so far – one in the potty and one in the toilet.
A couple of weeks ago he gave it a try and changed his mind.  He’s
hated the potty until now, so he’s making life slightly easier by accepting it!
  4. What will you never forget?I hope that I never forget the first time I looked in to Oliver’s
    eyes.
  5. What is your current job?I’m a Stay At Home Parent, but R and I also have a business together and I’m in
charge of all the boring bits.
  6. What is your dream job?I really love what I do now, being home with the little one.  Anything
that enables me to do that forever I am down with!
  7. Sweets or chocolate?Chocolate, I’m not really a sugar fiend, don’t get me wrong, it’s good
sometimes, but I prefer a bit of dark chocolate!
  8. If you could change one thing in your life, what would it
    be?
I’d be less socially anxious – therefore getting out more.  I’m learning
to drive, so I hope I’m taking a step towards that!
  9. Do you have any hobbies besides blogging?Baking!  I love baking, especially occasion cakes.  Next on my list
is a joint birthday cake for two of the family members.  I might also take
a cake up to my friend when she has her baby (any day now!)!
  10. What is your perfect holiday destination?Australia – I’ve always wanted to go!  I’d be a proper Aussie Soap nerd
and go to Summer Bay and Ramsey Street! haha
  11. How would you spend your perfect day?A long day in the sunshine with my two beautiful boys, R and Oliver, probably
seeing some animals.  Then drop Oliver off with the grandparents so that R
and I can go out for a posh dinner and some drinks

Thank you so much for my nomination. I agree with so many of your answers, except I am a sugar-holic and terrible baker!! xx

We must have pretty similar tastes with boys named Oliver! 😉 I just made a booboo by putting a Victoria sandwich mix in to one tin instead of two, don't know why I thought that'd be ok! Haha.
