So after aaages of time spent on right move, we found a flat. It’s not in the area we are in now, but it’s only 5 minutes or so away, and in the right direction. We are basically in the next village, but in a super modern development, it’s on the 2nd floor, but has a lift. It’s a really well known building around here, in Hemel town the Kodak tower is the ‘wow’ place to live, in Kings Langley, it’s the Ovaltine building. There are 2 huge bedrooms, which is great. Plenty of space for baby, and for a sofabed, so we can have friends over to stay, which is great! There’s an en suite with a proper shower cubicle (climbing into the bath for the shower is starting get tiring), and a family bathroom. I expect we will use the en-suite much more than the family bath, in fact we are planning on getting one of those clothes airers you can attach to your bath, and basically use the space to dry clothes, instead of the lounge or hallway!
At the moment we are just waiting for all the paperwork to go through, because the boy is self employed employed they want his paperwork – I’ve no idea why though because we have given them a guarantor, and never needed to give it before. It seems to be taking ages, normally we say we want to move somewhere, and then a few days later we confirm the moving day, and all is certain. At the moment we are up in the air, we have to give a month’s notice to the landlord, and we don’t want to do that until everything is 100%, it wouldn’t be sensible to do it any other way!! So at the moment it’s looking like we may be moving start – mid September, it just depends how long it takes, we are ok with having 1 week between lets, but any more than that would be a waste of money, and we can’t afford that. No expecting parents can!!
The only problem is that it’s unfurnished, and we have always lived somewhere furnished. Luckily for us, the in-laws downsized about a year ago, and most of their old furniture is still in storage! So we are borrowing two 2 seater sofas, a couple of wardrobes, and a dining table. The only thing we really need to buy is a bed & mattress….and all the baby stuff!!
So far we have a pram, a moses basket and a changing unit. There’s still a few more things we HAVE to buy before the baby comes, the main one being a car seat, then there’s all the small things like nappies, and clothes etc, though we know a lot of people will buy clothes as presents, so we won’t be buying many of them!! We plan on buying a cot a bit later, when we know everything else is sorted out, as the baby won’t need it straight away, so we are not panicking. I feel slightly more organised than we probably are. Especially considering we don’t have any baby names yet. I’m 24 weeks, in fact, nearly 25. 24 weeks is a landmark in pregnancy, as it’s the earliest you can scientifically/medically give birth and the baby has a chance of survival. It’s reassuring to get here, but I hope there’s still quite a few weeks before baby decides my belly is too small and wants to break free – although it often feels like it’s trying to escape through my belly button, it’s so active and strong!
So, while I am still able, we are packing up our flat gradually. We have a garage that we rent from the council, and are gradually filling it up with the things we don’t use every day. The boy will borrow a van from work for moving, and we are going to get help from his parents, as obviously there is limited amounts that I can do. And I’m sure he has reminded them how much we helped when they moved!
