So I’m now 19 weeks pregnant!! Cannot believe that I am almost half way through! In the recent weeks I’ve only had a day or two where I’ve felt unwell, which is great – especially as having done a lot of reading and known a few people to have gone through pregnancy I know that the second trimester is when you can really start enjoying it!
My bump is coming along nicely, I feel huge already and I think I’m gonna be one of those women who just looks MASSIVE. What doesn’t help is my sciatica and the fact I can’t do much. I’m not doing anywhere near as much at work, and that has always been my saving grace for the waist line – my job is an active job, now, instead of standing I am sitting, and instead of getting in with the action I am on the side lines playing a supporting role. It’s just not the way I am used to working, but I know I have to, or I could do myself a lot more damage, which would, in the long run, make my life hell!! I want to be able to carry and hold my baby, push it’s pram etc and not be in pain while doing so! I’m trying to eat better, making sure I eat lots of vegetables, drinking lots of fruit juice – I don’t eat fruit – and milk/yogurt to get a healthy balanced diet of all the things the baby needs. I’m also thinking about getting a birthing ball to do some exercises at home.
Our first big baby purchase
So, we went shopping, mainly to find maternity bras and just have a look around the shops. We went to Watford Harlequin Centre, and spent the whole day there, the only thing we bought was 3 bras from Marks & Spencer and then we went to have a look around John Lewis – we like to look, but rarely buy unless we are feeling particularly affluent that day! We wandered in to the baby section and I decided to look at prams, at the start of the day I had no idea what I was looking for, or even looking at! In John Lewis a lovely lady explained a few things to us, which we didn’t know any of! Felt absolutely clueless and she really helped us along. Then we went to Mothercare which was in a retail park, as I wanted to get a pregnancy pillow – my back had been playing up recently and I hadn’t slept well for a few days. So we went to mothercare and had a look around, and ended up back at the prams. A nice lady came over and helped us out, showed us a model that we liked and we basically ended up buying it, and the pillow, and some bras!
Mothercare have a ‘baby plan’ scheme, where you get an order number and you can basically add things and take things off. You choose a delivery date for all of your items, which is great because you can buy virtually everything you need, without it getting in the way for months! So at the moment we have a pram – we opted for the Bugaboo Cameleon, possibly the most expensive in the shop, but I fell in love with it! It’s something that we should be able to use as a stroller so will last a couple of years, and they are well made so can be kept for baby no. 2 when the time comes! We were told an update is coming out in September and we will get the option to change to the new one if we want to, but the one we chose is not in production anymore so once the new one arrives in shops we definitely wont be able to get the one we looked at.
The pregnancy pillow is definitely helping. We went for the dream genie, it has a back support and a long section for your legs, and it definitely makes the difference when sleeping. If my back hurts, I can easily get in to a position that makes me more comfortable. The only downside is that because I sleep on the right of my partner, and it is advised to sleep on your left side, the pillow is right between us, so night time cuddles are limited – of course the cushion does get thrown on the floor for special occasions!! 😉
I can feel the baby move!!! Or at least I think I can…
Having never been pregnant before, I don’t know what a baby feels like when it’s inside!! I am sure that I can feel the baby moving now though, not very often, but there is a funny feeling I can’t really describe that I am 90% sure must be the baby moving. I’m 19 weeks so sort of at that stage where you feel it, but with no idea what I’m waiting to feel it’s a bit strange. My tummy has a definite shape where my uterus is, and when I lie down (and my fat sinks to my back) you can really feel it as it’s much more solid. It’s really strange. I’ve noticed I can feel my pulse through my belly a lot more recently – I read that my heart is working much harder, I forget the percentage, and so I guess that is why. I have no idea when my partner will be able to feel the baby, I hope it’s soon though, I love when he can be a part of the experience, and he often rubs my tummy. What I look forward to the most is when you will be able to see the movements through my skin! Although I definitely don’t look forward to being that big!!
Next scan is in 10 days, hopefully we will find out if the baby is big or if I’m carrying a lot of fluid, I’m definitely bigger than is expected at my dates!! I definitely look forward to seeing my baby again, and hope that we can see it wriggle and squirm on the screen again!!
