I haven’t blogged for a while…mainly because I haven’t actually had chance. Partially because I always used it to get my worries out, and they have mostly gone.
I had my scan on 24th May, and it’s been all go since then, with work and life. Telling everyone has taken up so much time, having to go see family, making time for long phone calls with friends etc.
The day of the scan itself, I barely slept the night before, I got up, ate breakfast and slowly drank my litre and half of liquid, mainly through orange juice and the odd glass of water to top up the fluid intake. We had a big breakfast as it was a big day. I was really nervous and a bit worried. When we got into the hospital, and eventually found our way to the X-Ray department, we waited anxiously, but only for a few minutes. When we were called in the ultrasound nurse asked if I’d ever had a scan before – “only on my ovaries” was my response. She moved the screen away and explained she needed to have a look around before she showed me. A few seconds later, the screen was turned around and she showed us our baby.
“There’s one baby….”, I started panicking and thought she was going to say “and there’s another!”, but it stopped at one! Phewwww. Two little hands, Two little feet, a rather large head and a little body too…and the most important part, a clear heartbeat! We sat looking at the baby in awe, I just smiled and the realisation hit me….”That’s inside me!!”, my partner watched silently, and when I turned to look at him he had a tear in his eye, and was rubbing it away, I just had a huge grin on my face for the first time since I saw that dreaded word.. ‘Pregnant’.
Since that day, my work life has been non-stop, and then I had two weddings in the space of a week, one of which I was a bridesmaid for, and of course, having to see family and friends since revealing our news.
So, for all of you, here is my scan picture…. it’s ridiculously clear, and if I hadn’t got my name on the top, I don’t think I would believe it was mine!! It even looks like it’s sucking it’s thumb!
